The village consists of small stone and brick houses clustered around the charming little square, Piazza della Cisterna as well as a 12th century keep. Among all the medieval castles in Valdambra the Castello Cennina has best preserved its original character and form.

This ancient stronghold was built over the remains of a guard post on the Etruscan and Roman road that connected the Chianti hills to the Cassia Adrianea consular road in the valley below. The still visible fortress was built in 1167 by the Ghibelline count Alberico d'Uguccione Brandaglia, who was made lord of Cennina by Frederick II.

For its strategic position, Cennina was the object of furious contentions between Florence, Siena and Arezzo, whose borders all met in the Ambra valley. Today its strategic position can be easily booked in order to make sightseeing to the most beautiful and famous places in Tuscany...
